Welcome to one of the UK's Premiere photo clubs based near Birmingham, West Midlands.
Smethwick Photographic Society is a friendly and welcoming camera club with a varied programme for everyone.
We welcome new members so why not come along to one of our meetings to see what we have on offer.
It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Judith Parry, who died in the early morning of the 7th June 2026.
A lot of you will have known Judith through her absolute dedication to Smethwick Photographic Society over many years, and also to the wider Photographic Community within the UK.
I am sure you will all join me in wishing both Roger, and their daughter Diane, our very best wishes at this time.
Judith will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Regular Events - SPS throughout the week
MONDAY PHOTO SCHOOL
Weekly hands-on skills and guidance run by The Photography School.
7pm – 9.15pm
Drop-in Photo Clinic
Every Monday Night we host this hands-on session provided by the Photography School.
Open to all, no pre-booking required. Pay on the night – £4 for SPS/Photo School members, £6 for non-members.
Thursday Night Lecture
Our main weekly club night hosting a broad range of inspirational talks.
8pm – 9.30pm, doors 7pm
Second Mono Print Competition on 23rd July
Thursday 23rd July. We have our 2nd Mono Print Competition. Entry closes Monday 20th July. Live in the clubroom & via live stream. Starts 8pm
Thursday Night Hybrid Lectures
Every year, some of the finest speakers in the UK present at The Old School House. Although Smethwick is best enjoyed in person, we offer a high definition live stream if you prefer to attend lectures from home. member ENRICHMENT activities
Starting summer 2026 SPS will be running a range of enrichment activities exclusively for members. Each one will run just prior to the regular Thursday night lecture from 6.30 – 7.30pm. Coming up in the next few weeks:
Thursday 23rd July 2026 – Merit Awards Information Session.
Thursday 6th August 2026 – Critique Session.
Special Photo Session Days at SPS on 21st and 22nd November 2026
We are giving our SPS Members Advanced Notice in order to secure early access and discounts.
SPS members – £175pp for one place with the use of discount code SMETHPS and if then you book a second place you will get that for £150pp, meaning a total of £325pp.
Discount code expires on 14th August.
The process will be by registration on the website, then confirmation email sent back to the member, then member pays and place(s) get confirmed.
