Kathmandu, Dhaka Shipyards & London Street Photography with Charles Ashton

On Thursday 22nd May Dr Charles Ashton will be sharing his varied pictures live in the club room with SPS members and guests alike, concentrating specifically on street photography both at home and in Kathmandu & Dhaka.

Charles is a physician of 40 years experience now moving into retirement.  His main photography interests are Documentary, Street and Travel photography including taking opportunities for portraiture when they present themselves.

His observational skills as a physician help him find those human moments. He was not aligned to the F8 school and “rules” of street photography. He believes attention to depth of field, exposure and especially design of the whole frame make a good picture. Above all a picture that precipitates an emotional reaction in the viewer is a success.

“As photographers we need to dare to be different and express ourselves through our images”.

Charles holds the following photographic distinctions FRPS MPAGB EFIAP/Platinum  and ABPE.

Sports Photography with Ady Kerry

On Thursday 15th May Ady Kerry will be sharing his journey in photography with SPS members and guests alike, concentrating specifically on sports editorial work.

Photography has the power to excite, educate, inform, cajole, challenge and influence us.

Quality photography is art. Interpretation and context is integral to the image; the emotion it provokes helps tell the story. These feelings are central to Ady’s work. Ady learnt his skills in the military as a photographer, and has subsequently worked in the commercial marketplace as a freelance for over thirty years, working for many high profile, companies and media organisations.

He’s now employed at De Montfort University in Leicester, as a Technical Instructor, working with students studying fashion styling, developing their photographic skills for future employment in the fashion industry, post graduation.

Honesty and integrity are key elements of Ady’s imagery and these stand at the forefront of his work. In the corporate communications’ sector truthful representation of the company’s image is as vital to their reputation, as it is to his own.
