More of the Way I See It with Rosemary Wilman

On Thursday 27th November Smethwick Photographic Society and guests will get a first hand glimpse into the photographic work of Rosemary Wilman:-   ‘More of the Way I See It’ a presentation by Rosemary Wilman.

Rosemary Wilman HonFRPS AFIAP ABPE APAGB

Rosemary’s photographic interests are diverse and include travel, landscape and ‘whatever takes her eye’. An intuitive photographer she focuses on the ‘the way I see it’, looking for her personal interpretation. In the landscape she may be drawn to simplicity or the intimate landscape. With other subjects it’s a case of ‘whatever takes my eye’.  More recently IR has become an interest and she wonders why it took her so long.

In 2011 Rosemary completed two years as President of The Royal Photographic Society.  A member of both Epsom Camera Club and Richmond & Twickenham PS she enters exhibitions, lectures and, as a member of Spectrum Photo Art, exhibits her work.

Starts at 8pm in the CLUBROOM and on the new stream system for those not able to attend.

This week’s talk is part of a series of FREE ‘taster’ sessions for local Sandwell community residents and workers (non SPS members or regular guests). If interested do login or better still come along to the live presentation at the clubhouse. Full details below.

Catchlight and Beyond with Jennifer Willis

On Thursday 20th November Smethwick Photographic Society and guests have a unique opportunity see and hear:-   ‘Catchlight and Beyond’ with Jennifer Willis live in the clubroom.

“Jennifer Willis – MFIAP, MPAGB, FRPS, FIPF,
Immediate past Chairman of Catchlight Camera Club
Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, until only eight years ago Jennifer was still photographing pets and family on ‘Auto’ setting.
After joining Catchlight, Belfast in 2018 she quickly learned from those around her and in due course became the author of many award winning images. However, in her own words, her impactful images are not the product of any technical mastery of the camera but rather of instinct, curiosity and having a special connection with the subject.
In this new talk, Jennifer shares her passion of her favoured photographic genres – Sport (specifically rugby) and Portraiture (and a little bit of Pet photography).  More importantly Jennifer will share her motivations, how she achieved some of her most ‘best’ images that have shaped her photographic successes, and further contributed to the successes of Catchlight. Illustrating her talk throughout in both print and PDI she describes what she looks for in an image, what her images have in common and what links her love of these two contrasting ’specialist genres’.
Jennifer is a someone who speaks candidly about her own experience and limitations as a person, a member of a camera club and as a photographer. She hopes to inspire members to contribute to their camera club but also to look beyond the club for positive opportunities to use our talents.”

Landscapes for All Seasons with Robert Harvey

On Thursday 13th November Smethwick Photographic Society and guests will be treated to:-   ‘Landscapes for All Seasons’ with Robert Harvey

Encompassing epic vistas, intimate landscapes, starry skies and engaging wildlife portraits, Robert aims to understand, educate and inform about all aspects of the natural world.

Professional photographer Robert Harvey created Natural World Photography to share his passion for landscapes, nature and the night sky.  An Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and a Chartered Natural Scientist, Robert worked in environmental management for 20 years. His understanding of how landscapes are formed, wildlife ecology and the natural cycles that influence them make for both compelling photographs and fascinating stories behind them. Careful planning to make the best use of light, seasons, weather, sun, moon and tides is the hallmark of his photography.

Seasonal change is an inspiration to landscape photographers. Spring wild flowers, summer harvest, autumn mist and winter snow transform the countryside from ordinary to exceptional. Exploring favourite locations throughout Britain to illustrate light and composition, tonights talk shows how to make the most of conditions, capture reflections and panoramas, use filters and explains techniques such as focus stacking.

You can view a wide range of Robert’s work and photography support on his website here:
