On Thursday 15th January 2026 Smethwick Photographic Society and guests will get a great start to the new calendar of speakers. We kick off with Colin Westgate and his expressive take on landscapes.
“The challenge of landscape photography is to convey the emotional response to a scene into a photographic image with feeling. The camera is an adequate tool which will very capably record detail, but it will rarely completely capture what the photographer feels. To achieve this usually requires a degree of interpretation and post processing , using simple techniques to create what can be truly called an ‘Expressive Landscape’.
In this talk, Colin will show some of his early work, followed by images in monochrome and colour made throughout the years until the present time. .His digital techniques emulate those he used in his darkroom and are mostly basic enhancements such as local tonal controls and use of contrast.”
Starts at 8pm in the CLUBROOM and on the new stream system for those not able to attend.
