Thursday 14th March: We have Eion Johnston.
Since being able to devote substantial amounts of time to the activity, the fundamentals of Eion’s photography are now based on images of the human form. These range from classic portrait work to art nude. He has been inspired by figurative artists ranging from the early exponents of ‘Chiaroscuro’ (the use of contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume) to New Yorker Robert Mapplethorpe’s unique black and white work from the 70s and 80s.
Eion photographs prolifically, capturing looks and feelings. Fully aware of using a camera to see what things look like as a photograph, creating his own representation of the subject matter. The work often involves intensive creative post-processing and therefore the image is no stranger to ten (or more) layer Photoshop files. Eion personally believes that a photograph should be a physical artifact and he prints a lot of his work just for the joy of seeing it as a high-quality image on paper
