India, Nepal, Bangladesh & China Street Photography with Colin Trow-Poole

On Thursday 9th April Smethwick Photographic Society will offer a warm spring welcome to Colin Trow-Poole. Colin is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and the Irish Photographic Federation.

In addition, Colin holds a Master award at the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain and has won numerous national gold and silver medals. He judges, has held exhibitions and has articles published. Sponsored by Permajett he has a passion for printing and although he enjoys the simplicity of monochrome, he also engages in a considerable amount of colour work.

Historically a darkroom worker he’s embraced the digital age and in doing so has retained the merits of traditional club photography. He enjoys the tactile physicality of the print and considers the way an image is printed can influence the meaning and emotional values we attach to it.

Tonight Colin will be giving a print presentation detailing his travels around India, Nepal, Bangladesh and China.  The talk will consist of both colour and monochrome prints, but it will also include pictures taken closer to home in various UK cities. Many of the images will have an environmental portraiture feel to them, whilst others will have a more documentary type bias. Towards the end of the talk he will be showing a range of experimental type pictures using techniques such as ‘intentional camera movement’, ‘multiple exposure’ and photographs taken at night. He will showcase a dynamic mix of work catering for a cross section of tastes within the audience.

Here’s a selection of what we can expect from Colin:
